Zoloft (generic: sertraline) is an FDA-approved drug used primarily for the treatment of major depression (MDD) in adults, social anxiety disorder, and posttraumatic stress disorder, among other illnesses. It is one of many brands of Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs) on the market and is not, despite many physicians behaving to the contrary, approved for the treatment of depression in persons under the age of 18. Zoloft warnings include those for pregnant women, as there may be a possible risk of Zoloft birth defects for these individuals.
